First Strawberry

EXPLOSION!! It has been raining so much that I took a couple days away from the garden and now it looks like everything has leaped upwards and outwards. The one exception being my peppers, bell and hot peppers both. They must be waiting for the sun to show itself. Ahh. My garden looks so different from the pictures I posted last week. Wow. Rain is good.

Wow, what a great garden! How rewarding to eat food you have grown yourself! My husband and I want to start a garden in our small square of yard but I have a black thumb, haha! Did you do any reading prior to planting or did you already know what to put where and when to plant? Any suggestions for resources about planting a garden?

Emily,
Hi! I missed your comment somehow. Thank you! I have been using the book Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew. I mixed up the soil mix that he recommends and I highly recommend it!!! It is such a joy to plant things into well-prepared soil. You won't want to go back. It's a great way to make good use of small spaces. I also did some research on line about which plants grow best in what light and then I've experimented a little. I have found that the earth takes so much better care of the plants than I do so I try to put the plants in the ground right away, preferably in a place where the rain can get to them. Good luck! You can totally do it!
